So NOW we know why he quit his role a couple of weeks ago, he knew this was coming.

It's hardly news - most journalists have known about such matters for some time. As, I would have thought, the detailed itinerary indicates.

Are there still proper journalist left?
The likes of John Pilger.

I thought all ex PMs got police protection after leaving office?
If so then this is just a case of kicking a left of center politician whilst ignoring the right of center ones that have enjoyed the same privilege.
Edit:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protection_Command
Seems like they do!
Non story really.

I'd imagine certain others eg Home and NI Ministers do too.

If they all get the security approach, disruption and manpower that he brought to the neighbourhood then they all get too much.

1) I don't believe an ex-PM is much of a target, although I quite believe a current one could be.
2) If an ex-PM does get bumped off, I am not sure that is any more or less important than any terrorist murder on your own soil.
And, by the way, security only works if the potential assassin wishes to survive. Killing someone is much easier, and probably unstoppable, if you don't care about survival.

Some ex PMs are more of a target than others. The Iraq etc connection probably puts Blair at more risk than the other two survivors (Major and Brown). Thatcher, before she went do-lally, would have been a trophy for more extreme Irish elements.

In pragmatic (ie continuity of government terms) that's true. See above re 'trophy' value.

Indeed.

1973?
(P.S. - nice use of 'do-lally'. Haven't heard that in years and it made me chuckle.)
