 Marbles - Armel Coussine
Went to see the doc to get a blood test for liver function and so on today. The nice lady doc said my well-known habits were bad for the marbles and ran me through the standard marbles test. Most of it was a total doddle but counting backwards from 100 in sevens made me hesitate once or twice. I complained that my skin is getting old looking. She said smoking doesn't help with that.

However the doc said smilingly that I've still got the marbles. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the blood test results will be OK.

My local GP surgery offered a marbles test about a year ago to patients over a certain age who had certain medical conditions.

I found it very interesting, particularly chatting to the specialist who had been brought in to carry out the tests. She told me that I still had me marbles.

I just did the counting back from 100 in sevens thing. That seemed to work ok.

I can't even count forward in sevens, let alone .... What was the question again?

A few years ago I took my mother to the dementia consultant, who did the standard test of reading out three words and then a few minutes later asking if she could remember them.
I couldn't either.

One of my dreads is having to remember a list of menu options from a group of people in a restaurant. I can usually remember my own choice, but am stumped after that.
But I can remember whereabouts in a book I have read a particular passage even if I don't know at the time I might want to recall it.
And I can wind back my memory like watching a film of every single event in my life.
It's like Street View - I can zoom in for greater detail.
