"On BBC1, viewers peaked at 17.9 million, with a 60% share of the audience between 2155 BST and 2200 BST.
On ITV, which was also showing the final, figures peaked at 3.8 million between 2200 BST and 2205 BST, a 13% share of the audience."

I am not surprised, better analysis and better commentary, not to mention the lack of adverts and it even seems that the ITV peak was after the BBC coverage had finished.

When flicking between the channels. I get so annoyed that every channel except BBC has adverts at the same time. How not gain audience! If I flick I may find something interesting and stay on the channel, but if I find an advert it on to the next channel.

Even in today's multi-channel age, many people still naturally turn to the BBC for big events.

Also if you are watching in HD, despite the reduced quality since its first introduction, BBC is a better picture than ITV. I like to read those far side advertising boards/screens clearly!

Yes ITV HD is appalling in many respects, BBC HD is much better - for sporting events BBC wins hands down all the time better coverage, better commentry/analysis, better HD Service and no adverts (All remember the commericial break when there was a goal... fiasco on ITV HD)
As a poster further up has said, it seems that all commercial channels seem to schedule their commercial breaks at the same time, so if you channel hop thats all you get to see - adverts (BORING!)
Good old BBC (and no im not a employee of the BBC)

HD was better to my recently tested eyes in the BBC - couldn't give a stuff about the commentry, I watched TG on SD BBC2 then flicked over to see the end of the match, probably like quite a few others. Spain won (as we know) the players who were interviewed had seemingly better English than the England players - bless the Spanish Queen she seemed to thoroughly enjoyed the win - nice smile !

Perhaps I'm luckier than most, but both my Freeview HD and Freesat HD ITV1 high definition displays are excellent.

ITV should not be allowed NEAR live sports events.

Couldn't agree more...

Could be worse, could have been produced by Setanta :-P

What a non event . I did not bother to watch it live ..... however I have seen bits and pieces repeated on the news channels.
Be honest - if it was not the World Cup Final how many of you would give a toss about a match between Holland and Spain.
By all the newspaper accounts it appears to have been a bad tempered match with both teams doing much clogging ... if I want to see that sort of violent contact I prefer to watch rugby.......
Any sport is usually better covered on the BBC IMO.

Not a horseracing fan then, retpocileh?
FWIW I can't be doing with Adrian Chiles & co, but I do think (& may be in a minority here?) that Clive Tyldesley is by far the best commentator in the business.

Don't generally watch day to day racing and only bet on maybe National and Derby . Betting is a fools game. I sometimes watch with SWMBO and we both pick a winner just for the fun of it.
BBC coverage has Clare Balding with her family training background and Carson & Scudamore with their unrivalled knowledge of horseflesh and race riding
Channel 4 has John McCririck ...... enough said !

Will stop thread drift here - but you had me gasping for breath, old chap! :-)

Where were the other 27%?
JH

|
20% were stuck in the jam trying to get out of silverstone, and 7% were getting blootered in the camp site.
|
option 2 sounds preferable if one's helicopter is unavailable :-) Did they put anything on to show the final, big screen or anything?
JH
|
yup it was shown on the big screens at the track.
I wasnt there tho, the camp site was 1/2 mile away.
