I'm not being heartless about the Nepalese disaster, whose 2,500 dead so far won't be the half of it by the time all the remote places have been visited. Just got carried away by the safe-as-houses image in a negligent moment.
Natural disasters must be doubly disastrous for scattered, subsistence communities. It's easy to be smug and offhand in rich, geologically stable (for the most part, stay away from southern Italy if you're worried) Europe.
Asking for it in a way.
