I know there are a few others here who listen to Radio 4 and its many treasures but this one was a bit early in the day - On Your Farm:
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b054p93z
Lord Plumb, formerly Sir Henry Plumb, is described as the 'elder statesman of British farming'. I vaguely recall him as public face of National Farmers Union in sixties/seventies and he went on to be a Tory Euro MP and Chair of the European Parliament.
The programme visited his family farm in Warwickshire, ground it first covered 50yrs ago. Lord Plumb is apparently 90 but clearly still has his finger on the button and his account of how farming had changed in his lifetime and how his business adapted was fascinating.
Equally interesting were the excerpts from the sixties broadcast, presented by two or three men all with 'rp' accents; a contrast to today's single handed northern female. Laced with references to housewives buying Plumb Dairies milk and containing an interview with a 'pretty nurse' from a nearby children's hospital who also bought his milk for the patients. A social and broadcasting time capsule.
Radio at its best.
