Yes I agree with pretty much of that but I shall still be watching the Oscars. Part of the television year and a "must watch" for me. Haven't got round to seeing the two main contenders for Best Picture, Boyhood, and Birdman though so don't have a view as to the winner.

The Oscars is basically a money making exercise, for the event itself and for the industry future.

Dont intend to either. Seen a fair bit of piccies in the last 12 months, including half the best picture nominations, American Sniper, Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game and Whiplash the other 4 are of no interest to me.

What did you think of the Grand Budapest Hotel?
I couldn't make up my mind whether or not I enjoyed it.

I thought I wouldn't enjoy it, but in the end I did - it was sufficiently quirky, mildly amusing and was just surreal enough not to be be too noncy and annoying. I think you had to be in a certain frame of mind to watch it, another day I might find it annoying.
Can recommend Kingsman.

Funnily enough I'm in a coffee shop with No. 1 and she just announced that we had to go and see Kingsman - looks quite good from the reviews I've just read.

Yeah, did enjoy it overall by a bit of the latter.
Thoroughly enjoyed Big Hero 6 though - great story (not over-complicated obviously), funny, and fantastic to look at.

Boyhood in particular seems one of those "must see" films. I'll see it when it gets re-released post Oscars.

Don't like the Oscars myself, but No. 1 daughter will stay up and watch the whole thing. And will be recycling facts and opinions from it for a week.
Mind you, I'm not sure the Oscars are as tedious as the rantings of a man in the Telgraph about his opinion of something he doean"t have to watch. A bit Mary Whitehouse"ish. I always wondered how she managed to seek out so much indecency. God knows I tried to find it.

Don't think the Oscars are on my TV set. Must be cable, Sky or whatever. Anyway I'm off to the pub now. I hope Boyhood wins because I like Linklater films, especially the 'Before' trilogy which are amongst my favourite films.
Exhilarating weather here today. Parked at Ribblehead viaduct and walked over Whernside in Arctic conditions. Gale force winds, horizontal snow. Full winter kit including ski goggles and ski mitts. Need to warm up in front of a log fire, pint in hand. For those watching the Oscar spectacle, enjoy!

I am all for the Oscars.
If it wasn't for the academy having to distribute copies of all the new films to their judges then I wouldn't get to watch them on my laptop.....
