Electric recliner / riser chair problem - BobbyG
My dad has a standalone leather electric recliner / riser chair.
It basically has 3 functions

1. The whole chair will rise vertically and slowly tip forward to help the occupant stand up.
2. The foot rest will come out horizontally to raise the occupants legs.
3. The back will recline back to put the whole seat in an almost horizontal position.

Last week functions 2 & 3 suddenly stopped working (dad said he heard a sort of humming noise just before it)

Then function 3 started working again.

But function 2 is still not working.

Under the chair there seems to be 3 different piston and motors controlling the 3 functions and they are all powered via a central box. This box has sockets for each of the 3 functions but each plug is unique (like the old DIN -type plugs) .

Anyone ever had to fix one of these at all in the past and can give me any clues where to start?

One of the packs underneath has the name Jaeger Industrial on it but I reckon that's the maker of that part rather than the supplier of the chair.

Don't know if this is the cause of yours, but amusingly my mums one failed in the on position. i.e. she pressed the button in for the "help me out" function, and it stuck on - tipping her on the floor. Shouldn't laugh I know but hey.

I took the switch to bits and sprayed it out with switch cleaner.

The switch as in the remote control or the actual workings underneath?

Hope you didn't laugh as you were picking her back up......

I attacked them all, Limit switches int he workings underneath, and stripped the remote apart and cleaned it up.

Couldn't help it. It also went into fully recline mode on its own as well, legs in the air is nearly as funny.

It's hard to resist calling it an electric chair.
