The scriptwriter and producer Brian Clemens, responsible for TV hits such as The Avengers, New Avengers and The Professionals, has died aged 83.

I can't recall watching the Avengers, but I enjoyed the other two programmes.

I was going to post this. The BBC have done the guy a mis-justice, being a perpetual audience rating thorn in their side for much of the time.

I used to watch the Avengers on telly, but in a shamefaced way. It's awful posturing mannered balletic guff really.
The Clemens oeuvre is extensive though. The right man at the right time in the evolution of British TV to produce the right sort of pseudo-tasty pap for the avid masses. I mean no disrespect of course. Energy and imagination are needed for a body of work like that.
