 External radio aerial - Ambo
I used my external radio aerial for VHF for 3 decades until my hi-fi packed up. Switching to a small music centre (Yamaha MCR 042) I found this worked well on VHF and DAB, using only the little indoor aerial provided. After 2 days, assuming the external aerial would work better, I plugged it in but found no difference.

However, there was bad storm last night and it was still stormy this morning, when I switched on. The sound in both cases was hopelessly distorted but worse with VHF. Replacing the indoor aerial restored both. What could account for the problem with the external one?

Rainwater in the connections for the external aerial?

As above, water in aerial connection, bent, broken or missing aerial.

Aerial blown down - but presumably you checked that?

I did and it seemed sound but now wonder if it hasn't been blown off axis. I can't recall exactly what it looked like, not having checked since the 1987 hurricane (which did not affect it).
