I read at the weekend that Debbie Harry is 65. Sorry if I've just ruined your day :-) This was supporting information in an article, not really necessary, and I'd rather they'd not told me as;
1. that means that I am, errr, umm, yes got it, 21 and several months! Again.
2. I suppose I ought to stop going "phwoar" as that picture rolls across the back of my eyes :-(
I'd still let her adopt me though.

Do you know I remember being gobsmacked at 18 to discover me & mates were drooling over a 30 year old . Some teachers calssed as far too old to possibly be attractive, were far younger than that!!

Not in the same league BB. There is only one Debbie. When she hits that top note in "Maria".........phew !

Not sure about being a DH, but definitely one of the top tunes of last year. And gave a fantastic performance whenever I saw her do it live, which was quite a few times (on TV). Hope she can keep it going.
Back to DH - my favorites are 'Alway touched...', and 'Atomic', espcially where the drums come back in after the bass solo. Worth turning up the volume for.

A few of us went to see Paloma at The Cambridge Corn Exchange earlier this year. Good tunes, amusing lady (well girl really) and a very tight band with good backing singers. A real fun show.
On the tour she did a remix version of *Do you want the truth*... this is it at Manchester a few nights before Cambridge... it was truly excellent.

Mmm.... perhaps you had to be there :-)
Obviously a great performer, must try to see her some time soon in case she gets too big (and she deserves to).
|
>>>Mmm.... perhaps you had to be there :-)
You might tell me you have extra speakers anyway but I find many youtube links I send to friends fall a bit flat their end... for the reason they listen through PC desktop speakers or even worse view/listen on a laptop. I use a modest but pokey extra amp/speakers with a sub under the desk which really brings stuff to life.
Also you're right about being there because the event atmosphere is a powerful addition to how you remember the gig.
Do see Paloma if you can... she (like many I go to see) isn't my core musical interest but I like anyone who is more than half decent and puts on a show with a good band.

Well I do on the desktop - hooked up to an old hifi - but most of the time (like now) I'm on my work linux laptop, which has a rubbish mono speaker that won't even turn off when you plug headphones in :(
>> Do see Paloma if you can...
I've mentioned it to SWMBO, and she did drag me to see Paolo Nutini last year, so perhaps come birthday/Christmas time... (actually Paolo was pretty good - another good performer and top band)

I was hoping to see her here in sunny Stockholm a couple of weeks back, but found it difficult to work out what stage she was playing on and when amongst all the other stuff going on here that week. ho hum. Did ge to see the lovely lovely Katie Melua close up, but nowhere near as interesting musically.
|
I was at that gig too Fenlander. One of the widest age spreads I'd ever seen at a concert. My daughter was just a bit too young to go really but she would have loved it.
As for the girl / lady bit she's definitely a bit older than the record company would have you believe and all the better for it.
Oh, meant to add it was a really good gig even though I'd seen most of the set a couple of months before at the Forum in Kentish Town.

Ha I was one end of that age spread!
Regarding her age thought it was an undisputed fact at 25??

Not sure whether Wiki counts as 'undisputed fact' but according to that it's her 25th birthday later this month:

Well, I can't claim any specific knowledge but she's done well to fit the whole back story into 25 years IMHO. Not that I care whether she's 25 or 45.
My wife has, perhaps foolishly, decided to sing Stone Cold Sober and Upside Down (and that rubbish Journey song Glee appears to have rehabilitated) at the end of term concert with the staff band at the school where she works.

The only pop star both me and my dad fancied. Always thought it a bit odd until I realised she was the same age as him!
She's still got it though - brilliant live in the Isle of Wight the other week. Just a shame the TV showed so little apparently.
|
I saw Blondie back in 2003 and even then she was looking a bit tired. I was probably expecting her to look just like she did in the late 70's though!
It was a good show though.
Never really got why Blondie was supposed to be a punk band though, its more electro disco to me. I suppose the style was quite punky.

I think they started off a bit more punky - 'rip her to shreds' is AFAIK the oldest track on 'Best of Blondie' and has a bit more of a raw edge to it, although not what you'd call 'real' punk.

Wiki call them a 'new wave' band - perhaps that got mis-translated into 'punk' as it crossed the Atlantic.
|
I'd have said they pre-dated punk

Well Blondie used to hang out with the Ramones and were apart of the 'New York' scene in the 70's.
New Wave is probably a better description of it.
My main music tastes are really indie/punk/electro/new wave and classic rock and I like most of Blondie's stuff if that means anything. I think Blondie though simply made good music. They are one band which your parents like but yet can still be played in indie or punk clubs.
Atom is always the big crowd filler - at least it was in my student days.

We caught the sound of a Bob Segar song on someone's radio yesterday, and it was one I hadn't heard before even though I thought I knew most of his stuff.
Listening while trying to look as though we were doing something else, we waited to be told the title, but all we caught was 'new album'??
Anyone know anything about this?
Pat
|
The best Wikipedia can do is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_Seger_Vol._1 which was released last year and includes "archive material"
|
We think the title may have been Final Reel of Final something to do with the end of a film/story?
It was haunting and beautiful, but I can't see it on Wikki Smokie!
Pat
|
That's the one:)
Seger i a pensive mood is almost better than when he's rocking.
Now, as we're heading home today, where can we buy this CD on the A38/M5 ( with a caravan in tow) to play on the way home?:)
Funny how hearing something from someone you used to play so much of, reawakens the urge to play their entire catalogue again.
Thanks F!

Well it's off 'Stranger in Town' (apparently) which is available in a 'remastered' edition (Capitol CAP35232B.2). Good luck!

The Ramones T-shirts are a bit of a joke. The label even says Ramones on it. I reckon they sell more t-shirts than albums! That said most saturday nights I do wear my Ramones t-shirt.
A while back four of were in a pub and we suddenly realised three of us had Ramones t-shirts on, and one was a girl who dosn't even like punk.
Blondie t-shirts are also popular, but you have to a girl to wear them!
I've got a Ramones CD in my car at the moment. Its actually quite relaxing to listen to, I couldn't really imagine driving with the Clash because I would just want to dance and drive at the same time - it might get err a bit banned.
|
i have a ramones t shirt
had it 20 years at least
its got a few holes but i wont throw it away
wife also knows not to throw it away too

I think they are one of those things, it dosn't matter if you're a old school rocker knocking on 70 or an 18 year old students all age groups can wear them.
I hope mine lasts twenty years!
|
"wife also knows not to throw it away too"
The moment I knew it was all over with my first wife was when she admitted throwing away my Scooby-Doo pillow case that I got when I was seven.
That and getting caught fooling around with an Emma Bunton look-a-like.

We play an arrangement of that in one of the wind bands I play in. Shut your eyes and you'd never know it was a bunch of staid amateur musicians playing one of rock's classic tracks. Er, not.

there are some timeless classics tho, I hacked into my sons music library the other day ( I didnt really - the tele latched on to his media player and accessed it). He is 20
In there he has Queen, James Taylor, Led Zepplin, Thin lizy. and he very much assumed them as contemporary, not of his fathers era. When I brought out the Vynl albums and he saw the cover art, he suddenly realised where itunes got its cover art from, having wrongly assumed it was internet era art.
We then perused the Album cover of "thick as a brick" - those of you who had it will realise there was no way that could be reproduced in cd or itunes format.....
