For a course on panic management La Sapienza University knew just who should teach it: Captain Francesco Schettino, who had steered the Costa Concordia cruise liner on to rocks off the island of Giglio and then abandoned his passengers to their fate.
Captain Schettino, who is on trial for multiple manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning ship, was invited last month to address students on a three-day master’s course at the Rome university on the consequences of the Concordia shipwreck.
