Just saw this priceless gem:

"The video shows the fearless feline jumping on the dog with enough force to push him away from the boy. Tara then chases the dog away from the driveway with its leg between its tail."

Story is all over the media like a cheap suit.

Love the graphic content warning at the start of the video clip too

It was the phrase "...chases the dog away from the driveway with its leg between its tail" that appealed to me - a kind of surreal image.

Was there any reason to single out the Mail - it's been headline news on most major news media, including Sky News.

All credit to the puddy tat involved...:-)

Did all the others use the phrase "...chases the dog away from the driveway with its leg between its tail"?

Journalistic standards and all that.

This is getting hard work.

What is/used to be known as a "literal" in the media...:-)

Easy to miss, especially as proof readers are a rare breed these days.....

Plenty of examples on this forum, including in the last few minutes ("there" for "their")! But who am I to point such things out, even though my tail is always between my legs? !!

And so it should be Stuart, I didn't have you down as a pedant!

You knew exactly what ''there'' meant so what's the problem?

You even noticed it was wrong, so you exercised your brain as well.

You 'almost (tut) failed to mention it so you had a great exercise in tactfulness.

You almost had a (should it be an?) halo.....then you fell all the way from the top of that pedestal I had you on:)

"Halo" begins with the sound of a consonant. So its "a".

And this starts with a consonant too, NF. "K":

Firstly, it doesn't matter what it starts with when its written, it matters what is starts with when its said.

Second, **** right off.

And you should get shot of the chips and have a bigger kebab instead. Philistine.

That's mixed lamb and chicken doner under the chilli peppers and salad. Just sayin'.

22 degrees and sunny in Central Berks/South Oxon today (same forecast for the rest of the weekend too) before you start. Cold cider in the garden weather.

What about "Hotel"?

;-)

>>What about "Hotel"?

I was taught that hotel is a French word and when correctly pronounced the 'h' is silent and therefore 'an hotel' is perfectly acceptable.

What about 'an historical event' that I often hear on BBC news?

Just don't get me started on folk that pronounce h as haitch.

Yes it is, but 'a hotel' is also correct and is perfectly easy to pronounce. I say it as a rule.

Thing about 'an hotel' is that it may seem easier to say for some people - probably the same ones who talk about Laura norder.

Not too often but, as a retired journalist, such things do annoy me....:-)
