 Michael Parkinson - maltrap
Many years ago when Michael Parkinson presented the FILM** programme on BBC one of his all time favourite clips was a scene showing a soldier being marched out in the snow by a firing squad to be shot, this was accompanied by some very emotive music. Can anyone with a better memory than me recall the name of the film or music ?

I think you mean "The Victors" a 1963 film by Carl Forman

Wow thanks for that. Completely forgotten about that movie.

Music is by Sol Kaplan and his Orchestra with Frank Sinatra.

There was a (repeated) programme on the BBC on the other night about British war films of the fifties/sixties, in case you are interested and missed it. Simon Heffer.

Not very insightful but quite good fun, and interviews with some people involved at the time, including Guy Hamilton.

Thank you all, this site never ceases to amaze me with the amount of brainpower on tap!

What was that aircraft at 1.27 ? The one which the skidding aircraft crashes into ?
 Michael Parkinson - Roger.
Hasn't Parky sold out to the dodgy whole-life-insurance-for-the-over-50s industry?
 Michael Parkinson - CGNorwich
Why is it "dodgy". Any basis for this statement?

Poor value for money then.
 Michael Parkinson - CGNorwich
Could be very good value for money if you die soon after you take out the policy.
 Michael Parkinson - Zero
fraid not, You don't get any money if you die in the first two years.
 Michael Parkinson - CGNorwich
I' d be hoping to live more that two years if I was only 50 . That' s still a pretty good rate of return ( at least for your relatives). Personally I' m not too worried about them copping my funeral costs but they will probably just lob me in the compost bin.
 Michael Parkinson - Runfer D'Hills
I'm making no provision for funeral costs. I'm happy to rely on the smell to encourage someone to dispose of me appropriately and expediently.

but how will we know when you have died?
 Michael Parkinson - Runfer D'Hills
Same as they'll know when you have. When I finally shut up...

PS

I see they actually refund your premiums plus give you half as much again if you die in the first two years

That's baffled me, which clip do you mean?

Days of glory's less than an hour long and shows some geezer talking at 1.27.

The Victors shows an air raid at 00:01:27, but no aircraft skidding and the start of the execution scene's around 01:27:00.

Curtis P36 hawk I think. >> What was that aircraft at 1.27 ? The one which the skidding aircraft crashes into

Curtis P36 hawk I think.

I thought it was a Hurricane in US markings for a minute but was too heavy and with a rotary engine. Sorry it was the Victors film I was talking about. That scene is incredible. I saw once or twice as a youth but never appreciated the artistry of that scene.....very, very bleak.
