 Confession Time - Pat
I think everyone who has changed their forum name in the last year should confess who they are now, were before and even who they were on HJ.

......and tell us why they did it, but I bet they won't!

It's confusing to say the least and I hate to think how someone new manages to cope with answers to a post when the name changes historically too.

It renders the search filter useless if you are searching for a post made by someone from the past and is sooo yesterday, don't you know:)

I plead the Fifth! (Plus a rotten memory).
 Confession Time - Crankcase
I was Dipstick on HJ if that helps.
 Confession Time - rtj70
But some have been changing their names recently and it is hard to remember who they might be now.
 Confession Time - Zero
>> I was Dipstick on HJ if that helps.

You haven't really changed on here. (sorry - as a feed it was too good to resist)
 Confession Time - Crankcase
If my online persona didn't match either of those names I'd be disappointed, as they were chosen specifically to reflect the character I choose to play, RF.

I've always said that. People, especially forumites, are actors.
 Confession Time - Pat
Bottled out already?...thought so!

Pat
 Confession Time - Old Navy
I was Old Navy, Humph (or whoever he is now) likened me to the character Uncle Albert in OFaH. So I thought why not.

I am confused as well but that comes to us all eventually. :-)
 Confession Time - Bromptonaut
Once a Bromptonaut and always a Bromptonaut both here and on HJ. In very early days of HJ I posted under my own name but those posts are far back in his archive - pre 2002.

An ungulate never changes his, erm, hooves.

I think on HJ, I was once the sweet with the non-fattening centre.
What a misnomer.

Llantrisant?

Oh no, sorry, that's the hole with the mint.

 Confession Time - FocalPoint
Since Pat (sorry - Pat) started this thread, a good time has been had by many.

However, I believe Pat has a point. I am increasingly disinclined to give the forum the close attention required to keep up with name changes - in fact, I have completely lost track of some people - and that makes it even more difficult to understand personal allusions.

It also reinforces the idea that this is a "closed shop", which may make it offputting to newcomers.

I wish there was some way built in to the forum automatically to record the changes.

Best wishes to all,

Chris

It has got rather confusing lately, you wonder where people have disappeared to and it can take ages to work out what their new identity is.

And some just don't bother and disappear for ever.

You're Nigel Farage?!

Wow ! Had us fooled there. You come across as fairly sensible.

Being a dreary technical type, I couldn't possibly imagine why.

However, perhaps Crankcase put it rather well here;

I've often said that as well.
 Confession Time - Dog
I used to think I was a Dog, but after undergoing therapy for 7.5 years I now realise I was barking
up the wrong tree.

I've never been much good at this nom de plume malarkey, which is why I've always stuck with my actual name suffixed with whatever I happen to be driving at the time. The current nom doesn't trip off the tongue as easily as some have in the past, but there are more important things to worry about.
 Confession Time - legacylad
Don't know why I've kept my name as I haven't owned one for almost a decade. Nor do I envisage owning any Subaru product in future, despite all 3 being darned reliable and eminently fit for purpose.
 Confession Time - Pat
The point at which I realised it was counter productive was when I tried to use the search facility to search for a post, when all I put in was the authors name.

Normally that would have been enough to bring up all their posts, but not anymore.

I'm sure you'll find some way to lay the blame on me.
 Confession Time - Pat
It was actually one of Stu's posts I was looking for to clarify something he said a few months back but he's had so many name changes I gave up.

He's talked a lot of sense recently so it's a shame it couldn't be found.

Sorry to burst your ego bubble Z.

In an ideal world people's name changes would show in their profile but the world's not ideal.

While the name search is useful it's not much help tracing stuff from a prolific poster like Stu, Z or yourself. Usually need to resort to subject and/or words in body of post refined by timeframe.

 Confession Time - Focusless
BTW Pat in case you didn't know you can google (just) this site by prefixing your google search with 'site:car4play.com'.
 Confession Time - Pat
I didn't know that Focusless thanks, that will prove handy in future.

It's usually my fault.

Probably is.

No Z, no blame attached to you.
Now, if I could remember who that Renaultfamily bloke or Tourvanman turned into, I'd have a right go at them!!

Didn't that Renault family bloke turn into a bus?

I'd be too shy to reveal my nom de plume.
