AC you might remember we've briefly exchanged info on Fela Kuti in the past. By chance looking for something else I came across this 1986 interview audio (33min) from a small USA radio station.

Thank you Fenlander. Sounds tired in the interview and was very probably as ripped as a stoat on best local weed. But on best behaviour too, well-spoken and urbane. In England the discourse would likely have been a lot bushier.

That 'Suffer suffer' isn't my favourite number either. But there were a lot of numbers. The old boy was nothing if not prolific.
