Trivial observation, and question. - sherlock47
Last night I woke up at about 40 minutes past midnight, which is very unusual - normally sleep until about 04.00 for a watering break:) . I have a projection radio synced bedside digital clock, which I have owned for at least 5 years, but last night in trying to get back to sleep, I realised that it showed the time as AM 12.54. Not as I would have expected 00.54. I have to add it is set to a 12hr format and no alternative 24 hr display is possible.

Verbally you would always refer to half past midnight or 12.30 if asked ' what time did you get in last night?'

So the question is , is there a different convention for clocks when set to 12hr or 24 hr format? Is it a cost reduction measure to use a standard chipset?

What does it say at 12:54 - The lunchtime 12:54.

Twelve hour setting means 01 - 12.

00 would require a thirteen hour setting?

Would you like it to display 00:30 at half-past midday?

And 24 hour is 00.00 to 23.59. Never displays 24.00

0 to 23 is 24.

Just when things are becoming clear it is worth looking at
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-hour_clock

I think what I need to do now is to see if it shows the am/pm indicators correctly when showing 12.00. oh well another late night! I will probably sneeze (or the phone will ring) at the appropriate time and have to wait another 24 hours:)
