I've got an old but good quality Teac CD player on my stack system. It's been skipping for a little while now, probably about once per track. Would a lens cleaner solve the issue or is it time to send it to CD Player Heaven?
I'm assuming the cost of a repair would be more than its worth.

you good at fiddly diy? take it apart and clean the slide rails and clean the lens

Is it all discs or just one? Discs can be cleaned and there are lens cleaning discs available, they have little soft brushes that claim to clean the lens. The lens can really only get dust on it.

It's on all discs.
I'll give a cleaner a go first and if that doesn't work I'll do as Z suggests and open it up. It doesn't look very difficult, fiddly doesn't worry me.

And if that doesn't work a decent replacement under £20 on Ebay.

Got another one up in the loft, but the Teac has a remote (Yeah, I know).

I am not sure who makes the transport in the one in the loft, but most CD players will work with a generic remote. My parents had a mid 80's Sony midi sized system and to my amusement a generic remote control worked with the CD player.
I have the same problem with a second hand Marantz I bought for my workshop, so use a carry spare Ariston for now (a late 90's Richersounds special).
