... the government, and even the simple-minded opposition, parrot endlessly when discussing gas and electricity prices to consumers. 'There isn't enough competition,' yaps the egregious Caroline Flint, who manages to be both good-looking and deeply unattractive.
There isn't any damn competition. As any fule kno a group of colossal offshore multinationals (whoever actually owns the shares) dispensing absolute necessities will immediately form some sort of cartel and arrange comfortable, well-hidden superprofits between themselves. Since these politicians, Caroline Flint included, aren't fools one can only conclude that they are spouting this insulting lying twaddle on purpose and expect to get away with it.
There's a lot of this crap about. Watched a row of pundits on Al Jazeera the other night talking about the current anarchy in Libya, whose armed forces consist of numerous rival militias. Throughout a long discussion all the pundits put out the view that the militias are divided by ideology. This is garbage. There may be nuances of ideological difference, but the militias are in most cases essentially loyal to tribe and/or 'clan'. When the chips are down, the stakes high and everything in a very untidy state, blood is thicker than water. Libyan society is essentially tribal.
