A thread in another forum about choosing a dog breed, suitability with children and reaction to child parent horseplay led me to post following experience.
Friends have a geriatric neutered male Dalmatian and much younger neutered bitch Show Cocker Spaniel.
Twice on a recent visit their 17yo daughter had to take control of the Dalmatian, who was showing a scavenger's interest in family meals in prep, by seizing his collar and removing him from kitchen to porchway. On both occasions Spaniel, normally very tolerant, was barking/growling aggressively. Either she was jealous of her 'mistress' attending to other dog or she saw the Dalmatian as pack leader and wanted to defend him.
What do the dog whisperers think?

Food is around and more than one dog. Food and feeding order is an important pack ritual.
The daughter, unbeknownst to her, is giving off messages of a pack leadership coup. Smaller dog is making its position in the order known.

>>neutered bitch Show Cocker Spaniel
Criminal in my opinion. Probably interbred. Explains a wealth of problems.
Would you expect your brother to breed with your sister?

Its neutered. Not much incest going on there.

I mentioned 'show' because I understand them to be effectively a different variation from the larger 'working' Cocker like RP's dog.
The hound in question is a family pet and was never intended to exhibited.
