Do they complete the cycle by taking a cone-shaped chunk of soil from the recipient's garden back to fill in the hole in the donor's ?

The noun is understood.

Anyway, there is a virtual hole travelling in the opposite direction to the tree. I just wondered whether they can store the uncollapsed lump of soil ready to pop back into the hole in the donor's garden.
