Lord, what a country that is.
I don't use Starbucks/Costa/Nero much, they just feel like reckless spending to me, but as it happens I was in one today on Newmarket Road in Cambridge. Arrived half an hour early for a 9am meeting on the same retail park.
I like Cambridge but's it's a rubbish place to try and time your arrival in at that time. There was a 4 mile queue on the A428 at 7.30, up to the dual section, and a crawl all the way from the A14 though Fen Ditton - I didn't even attempt the Histon or Milton Road routes that were queued up the sliproads. Not being able to stomach food at 6am, I was ready for a bite.
They had some'sausage butties' that looked like just the thing. But they are cold, so they stick them in a panino press, squash the bread cake and dry it out, and leave the sausages lukewarm. I made the best of it, can't see how they could get a right result that way so maybe it's à la mode.
No guns in evidence. Nor even a fighting iron to cut my crispy sarni in half. There was a bloke with a toddler, even she was well behaved.
You just have to embrace these new experiences. That's two this week, after Noodle Nation on Sunday - also filed under Brass (Ways to Fritter).
