The first globe trotting TV documentary make for me to know about. Distnguished service record in the UK. Smart in both senses of the word, urbane and a superb story teller - thank goodness there's a huge archive of material.

There's a lot of places in this world I've been because he went there first.
A great personality who made all sorts of things interesting. And, sadly, another personality gone.

Me too. And some I went to and then realised with a degree of amusement that I had seen it on Wickers world. Its a a kind of bucket list moment.

Genial, usually entertaining and brilliant at what he did.
Became formulaic in the end - as you would - and early on developed some annoying tics and speech mannerisms, also as you would. But developed that genre of TV more or less single-handed in the days of three monochrome channels. Lots doing it now on the 5,000 channels...
Didn't know he was still alive actually... RIP.

There ought to be a periodic announcement of names of "People you thought were already dead but aren't".
Not very flattering to be on it of course, but better than being actually dead.

So who should be on the list?
