 Strange paint markings. - R.P.
First thing I noticed on the Triumph was that on all fastenings were little paint markings - some yellow, some brown and some white. The Kawasaki had them as well, the GS to a lesser extent. Any idea what they are for ?

Mrs RP wants to clean them off - I think they look very workmanlike....:-)

I've come across little dabs of paint on fastenings to stop them unscrewing, or to indicate things that aren't supposed to be undone. But never colour-coded.

I believe they are quality control markings used in the factory, when a fastener is correctly tightened or attached it is marked to indicate that the step in the assembly process is complete. The colour may indicate the workstation or person involved.

Cleaning them off may not be a good idea, they may have a warranty function.

The FJR had black marker on a lot of the fastenings and parts which I'm led to believe where indicators from the PDI check that the component had indeed been torqued and checked.
The coloured paints as stated are control markings which indicate that the component was indeed checked and torqued and if someone has messed with it the paint would be disturbed.
