 Spanish SIM cards? - RattleandSmoke
I am hoping to finally make my trip to Spain next week. I just wondered if anybody here has bought the SIM card in spain and how much it cost? I don't need to make calls as such, it is more for the internet access as I am not sure if my hotel will have in the room itself.

I can get roaming internet for £5 a day but it says its just for basic internet access, so it is not much good for catching up with corrie etc.

Is corrie still going?
I thought all the actors had been arrested?

Let me get this right......

You go to Spain and want to watch Corrie?

I'm told they are training Meerkats to take over the acting rolls.

You do know that iplayer and ITV catch up won't work outside the UK?

Rattle!

This time you have gone too far!

You want looking at!

Isn't that what VCRs / PVRs were invented for?

Anyway, I'd have thought a lad your age would be wanting to look at porn on your phone / computer, not Corrie.

Corrie? Corrie?! Really?

But to answer your question, I wouldn't bother. The Spanish 3G network is ropey at best; non-existent at worst, and absolutely useless for watching video.

If you need internet access, you're better off wandering around the city until you find a coffee shop that's open, or the lobby of a posh hotel. Or a McDonalds, of course. Or, y'know, do without for a few days.

But... Spain... Coronation Street? How old are you again?

 Spanish SIM cards? - VxFan
>> How old are you again?

Old enough to probably be Ena Sharples great great grandson.

Thinking laterally, why can't you record the omnibus version and watch it when you get back?

At the time you'd be stuck in your hotel room watching Corrie, the local totty will be congregating in the local cafes and hostelries for drinks and tapas before dinner (don't forget the Spanish eat late, but tapas is a very pleasant way to pass the time.

The senoritas make for far more appealing viewing than anything Weatherfield could ever offer...

Thanks Frosty :).

The weather looks very ropey so I suggest there will be times when I am stuck in the hotel due to a heavy down pour. Catching up with corrie etc would have been a good way of killing time. I will record them on a PVR anyway. I have watched every episode since 1990, I have been bought up with.

I don't intend to stay in my room watching corrie! But with the forecast of thunder storms etc I there might be times when I do decide to stay in a bit. Hopefully the Spanish weather even if it is wet due to the jet stream, won't be like here. e.g if it rains it will clear up quickly. Unlike her in Manchester where every single day just rains and rains and rains.

I will forget the Spanish 3G, I will probably just buy a couple of £1 or free UK Pay as You go cards and take them. I am taking two Android phones with me as I have spotify on both on them but the battery won't last for the entire train journey if I only take one.

Stuck in the hotel in a downpour? The cure for that is a thing called "T H E B A R"

Ena Sharples is about the same age as my great grand mother would have been (well Ena is actually three years younger) I am young enough to young, and old enough to be old. I am 30 knocking on 31.

I could of course take my own SIM card and turn of data, but I find with touch screen phones I have a habit of accidentally switching things on. To phone home I will use my VIOP via WIFI so it won't cost me a penny.

Leave the phones at home.
Forget everything about work.
Go out in the rain.
Watch the wet T-shirt competition.
Have a few beers.

And most of all enjoy it all.
 Spanish SIM cards? - RattleandSmoke
It is not really an 18-30 type place I am going, but there is plenty of night life there, is a balance really. Too old for that Magaluf stuff! Phones are just to keep me entertained during the long train journeys as well as the odd car magazine.

Still not worked out what to do about my business, I do have cover sorted but realistically I am not sure if I can help myself checking the voice mails (it is VIOP so I can answer my 0161 in Spain).

The Tee Shirt competition will be ab ad hoc one Rats....You can be the judge if you so choose.

That's just as bad. There's a whole world of real people out there. Why look at anything on a screen. The reality is even better.. Get out Rats and relax and enjoy and don't overdo the plonk or you'll make yourself a Plonker.

If the weather is bad, and I have no broadband, plonk might be the only option! I am hoping it will just be showers etc though. From the maps I have seen though, the band of low preasure will be over Spain when I am there.

Are you surprised?
 Spanish SIM cards? - RattleandSmoke
I am not sure, I have not studied the melting of the ice caps in enough detail and it has been years since I have studied meteorology. I will make the most of spain what ever the weather though, and if I want a good sunny holiday I will just wait to the next heat wave and go some where in the UK for a couple of days.

Or get wet! Take a coat!

The forecast is showers of rain. Move between bars in the dry, spend the time in museums, but not in the hotel. I can't believe you've spent this much on a holiday and 18 weeks on a coach to sit in your hotel room watching Coronation Street.

I am going via train, I decided I could not bare the thought of spending 13+ hours on a coach. At least on a train it will be easier to sleep and I can move around if I want to. I don't intend to spend much time in the hotel room at all, but there are times I will need a quick half hour nap etc. That is when the internet will be handy.

 Spanish SIM cards? - Bromptonaut
Would a hotel have WiFi?

Free in plenty hotels and campsites in France.
 Spanish SIM cards? - RattleandSmoke
The one in Barcelona does, the one in Salou doesn't but then it was a cheapest hotel I could find with decent reviews. It does have free WIFI in public areas, e.g the bar if I needed it.

Yeah right, and the box of tissues by the bed are just in case you catch a cold... :-)

Rattle, one day I hope to meet you. Honestly, I do. You're a complete mystery to me, and meeting you would resolve the mystery.

I don't really believe that anybody can be such a wimp as you pretend to be, anymore than in the Chris Watson / Walter Mitty days - but you cling religiously, reliably and surprisingly consistently to the persona.

You are amazingly dedicated to your stories, quite singularly, and quite amazingly.

Such an approach does not normally come from one such as you purport to be.

Ahah!! That's the reason for wanting to watch Corri then - to send you off to sleep.
