size matters in laundry - Hacko
anyone know if all washing machines have similar exterior dimensions? 60cms wide by 86cms high seems to be the norm. Internal capacities go from 5kgs upwards, but overall size doesn't seem to alter. Am looking for a good-make to fit in max width 55-56cms. Height and depth not so important.
Thanks
EH

You're going to struggle to get a good quality machine 4 cm narrower IMO, can you not widen the space a little?

Good machines now around £950 if you want a full 10 year full parts and labour makers warranty, thats what our new machine cost last year.

Have to say I have had three washing machines in 30 years, and dont think I spent 950 quid in total!

I think you went a bit overboard there.

Possibly, time will tell.

Like some cars the latest mid range machines are not built like they used to be, increasingly disposable items that will cost almost as much as new to replace a main bearing...thats if the drum isn't a single plastic casting which many now are.

During my time on agency i carried many full loads of machines (and other white goods) for recycling including many sold to refurb shops and got to know the people involved and the market quite well...the makes and ages of many of these 'scrap' machines was shocking, very few were as old or would make the age of the Bosch which we finally replaced last year.

Yes, all designed to fit under the standard kitchen worktop height in the standard Kitchen 600mm width hole.

Zannusi used to make a 500mm job, but now discontinued I think, you can get thinner top loaders.
