is this another april fools jock?

Some more compatibility in E&W - lots of Forces have gone with a Niche product called Record Management System - at least two Forces in Wales have - I reckon they'll be the next to merge - there was talk of it some years ago.
Just checked their website - 3 of the 4 Forces in Wales have it and 11 or so out of 43 Forces in E&W. In simple terms it's one system for everything a Force does, from Incident recording through Firearm registries...

So the segments in the force will share information the same way they did yesterday until systems are updated.
A non story I suggest.
|
It makes you wonder why local police forces were all using different systems in the first place. There was never any justification for having 8 forces in a place the size of Scotland. Nor two forces in Wales.
|
Four in Wales - its a natural evolution - pre 73 there were a good dozen - fitted in with the needs of the time until times changed. NWP for instance is more closely allied to Cheshire than SWP - the dynamics of crime. Crooks don't give a tinker's for Policing boundaries.

Exactly - there shouldnt be any. There should be a national police force. Possibly with the exception of the Met.

Oh the met should stay separate....

I think they are. On another island, not yet conquered. Invincible. Uncontrollable. The UK needs a Willem III of Orange as in 1688, up the Thames, to sort them out. It doesn't seem to be possible from our own institutions....

Any chance you could enlighten us on more of your in depth knowledge on the subject matter?

Not getting better are they? I won't mention self-investigation and Met head prejudging the issue of apparent stitching-up of MP.

Addendum.
A key issue in the Patten report is the reliance of the police on the phrase "operational independence", to fend off external enquiry into conduct. What was suggested later was to explore the impact of statutory amendment to include "operational responsibility" which Patten advocated. That would allow the lifting of the veil. tinyurl.com/2vs8gge

So what's your angle then? You want political control of the Police? You want short termism for political aims?
Wait and see what happens.
There's a 'divide and conquer' going on at the moment, for various reasons, and the end result is not going to be pretty.

The two things you don't want are:
Political control of the Police.
Police control of the Police.

Which is worse?

I am not sure, they are all equally nasty. Trouble is I don't know how you can keep either at bay or what body of persons to put in charge of them.

So just stick with the criminal control of the police we're used to. Why rock the boat?

The (41?) PCCs, and the formation of the APCC gives an oversight of the forces, but they "compete" with HMIC, ACPO, PSDs, IPPC, PFEW to name but a few. As an illustration, tinyurl.com/bdhadet, a report made by Transparency International on a recent ACPO report, which was made alongside HMIC and IPCC reports into the same issue! Mentions the public view of some unfortunate incidents: BENCHMARKING POLICE INTEGRITY
PROGRAMMES
As Westpig says "wait and see".

you want the met inflicted on the rest of the country?
|
Hardy a good prospect is it? Put it out to the private sector perhaps? Split it into manageable segments based on LA boundaries? Anything to stop them from insulating themselves from the rule of law by their sheer size and deployable resources.

That's exactly why they should be kept separate (with apologies to Westpig of course) causing the service job a huge amount of damage. Think Plebgate.

Met had at 31.3. 2102, 32,140 FTE staff. Almost 25% of the total for England and wales. Next largest was West Midlands with 7730 and West Yorks with 5219. Needs to be broken up judging by the recent faragos.
|
Mind you the Police Federation outside the Met hardly distinguished themselves.
|
Agreed. Issues of governance and funny handshakes abound across the industry. Not new. A potted history: tinyurl.com/3jtt52u "Britain's police forces: forever removed from democratic control?"
|
In the future new PCs when they graduate will have 1 x style of uniform.
Currently they have 8 x different uniforms so the Graduation photos from Basic Training look a bit odd!
