"Bob" apparently outsourced his own job to a Chinese company and sat back and collected the paycheck and credits.

I could do my current job from almost anywhere with a fast broadband connection. I have to get into the office for meetings but that's doable with a bit of notice. If I had to be on a customer site I'd be on expenses for hotels.... hmmm how would my employer know I was even in the UK!

In that case you are prime candidate for outsourcing :-)
|
But anyone else doing my job will probably get paid more than I do! :-)
I'm not sure the team I work in is the sort that usually gets outsourced. We'd normally be involved in designing solutions to support the management of systems that get outsourced to us.

Well I wouldn't immediately fire him, but there'd have to be a chat. He wouldn't get a pay rise, nor would he stay in his current job. I could perhaps find a role for him if I could simply resolve the issue that he took a security risk on my behalf for money in his pocket.
Everything but the security risk is very cool. But he took a significant risk FOR THE COMPANY since within the US you don't actually have to have a security breach, you just have to recklessly risk one.
Ultimately I doubt I'd keep him because of the recklessness, the trust, and the money driven behaviour.
But I would instantly fire his manager without doubt. That minute. With no reprieve, on so many levels.

Oh I dont know, It often does, but its never cheaper.

In my experience, outsourcing only works when applied to a sporadic specialist job - like hiring an expensive tool that you only use once in a blue moon.
My son works from home doing graphics work for a chap in Canada; there isn't enough work to warrant a full-time artist.

So true... that's why I do most of the work on our houses myself.
