Might be wrong but wouldn't the septics normally spell Endeavour as Endeavor or something wrong like that? I know they have centers for example. Were the Pilgrim Fathers dyslexic?

Beat me to it.

I have a vague recollection that the Yanks actually legislated some conventional spellings at some point in the early days.

I got that a bit wrong. It was apparently Webster and his dictionary - he was pro spelling reform and presumably put a few of his own ideas in!

I'd have guessed that the US spelling of Endeavour would be Endeavor.

On the nose - the whole fleet was named after historically significant ships - HMS Endevour was the Shuttle's forerunner - the Americans stuck to the Original UK English spelling out of deference !

Didn't exactly lose at Midway. Big stuff that was too.

I was stumped by the original question though, doh. Trust the cousins to trip a chap up by spelling something properly for a change.
