They all look iffy to me. I thought "Blacking up" was against naff PC rules these days
Britannia Coconut Dancers are an English country dance troupe from Bacup whose routines are steeped in local folk tradition. They wear distinctive costumes and have a custom of blackening their faces. The origin of the troupe is claimed to have its roots in Moorish, pagan, medieval, mining and Cornish customs.

"This is how real men dance !"
No, real men don't dance. They stand at the bar with their mates leaving their girl friends to dance round their handbags. - Well it was like that last time i went to the Palais in 1973!

The blacking up has nothing to do with race. Displaced Cornish tin miners came North to make their fortune in the cotton industry.
The black faces are those of the miners, the tapping and hands to the ears stem from trapped miners tapping their spoons on the pipework and then listening for any sound of help.

When I first met SWMBO, she was a keen and very good, ballroom dancer.
I, on the other hand have no sense of rhythm which combined with two left feet makes the worst and most reluctant dancer ever,
In the first throes of romance - or was it lust - I agreed to take ballroom dancing lessons.
At the end of the course I was perceptibly worse at dancing and never voluntarily strode the dance floor again.
Love - or lust - won out though and we have been married since February 1st. 1969!
Remind me, someone please, of the anniversary a bit nearer the time!
