Had a tidy up today around the house and found my dad's old Technics SU-Z1 stereo amp under the bed covered in dust. I was going to take it to the local recycling centre then wondered if it still worked so I duly hooked it up to a pair of Kenwood speakers as well as CD/DVD player and bingo, it worked!
And what a sound. Having Googled it I realise its about 32 years old but still feels solidly built with nice meaty switches and smooth rotary knobs for balance, bass, treble and volume. The only fault is a blown bulb in one of the sound output dials which has a needle which swings left or right depending on volume. I've now set it up permanently so that the DVD and Humax PVR and TV all run through it. It's got no remote but I can control the volume via the other appliance remotes.
Have you ever re-discovered an item you were going to chuck and had forgotten how good it was?

Much in demand with audiophiles.
If you have a turntable to go with it, even better!

I think my dad's still got the turntable in his loft. Hmm, might have to 'borrow' it.

You'll need some of those big flat black round things to put on it

Oh dear! Just looked to my left, and there is a Technics "stack system"(??) Amp is SU-X911 plus double cassette thing, CD Player, tuner, record deck for black things (!!) etc. Must have been there for 25 years perhaps? Always thought i sounded good in the past but it rarely gets used now what with iPods etc. However, tucked down the side next to it is a certain CD - Chas and Dave's Greatest Hits! Mrs W denies ever having bought it or seen it before, and so do I!! Where the heck did that come from?? And why would I ever admit to having it in the house? On second thoughts, Gertcha and Rabbit are ............. quite amusing!!

Good documentary about ChasnDave on BBC4 tonight. Well respected by other musicians.

I've just had to dump my old Philips CD604, because the transport's failed (I suspect grandchild's had something to do with this). Got a Kenwood midi off Freegle - sounds a bit 'bright' to my old ears, but It'll do.

Stuff wot I know I've got and is annoying me will have to go on Fleabay in the new year.....a Silver Cross pram, a Georgian bow fronted corner wall cupboard, a wheelchair, a BSA D7 motorbike in bits and various smaller items.
SWBO's the hoarder, not me. The pram wasn't for our kids but for the grandkids. It's had about 2 outings and now they've all grown out of it ! She can have what money it makes but I just want it gone before it rusts away ! No sentimental value in it.

She's hoarding the Bantam? Credit to her. Not a bike I like (at all) but its nonetheless as classic in its way.

If the corner cupboard is really Georgian and in good nick it may well be worth a tidy sum. Get it auctioned, not stolen by some jumped-up totter...

I griced EBay a bit since and found an almost identical one starting about £300.
I'll probbly get Bonhams to have a look, they're fairly local and do a free valuation service at home now and again. It was MiL's and we did have it in the lounge ( the cupboard, before Dog says anything ) but it dominated a little, so now it's bagged up in the railway room.
We're not too bothered about what it makes...money isn't everything. just get it a good home with someone who will appreciate it.
