This world gets stranger and stranger...

I wonder if it has become any stranger since 2009 ;-)
|
Doh. Didn't spot that. It was on the front page of the BBC website.
Still a strange thing to do though.

Passer by said are you jumping or not?

A half-remembered verse surfaces in my mind:
"Can you show me the quickest way to Brompton cemetery?
Certainly, said Gus,
And pushed him under the nearest omnibus."
Where would that be from?

QUITE FUN
My son Augustus, in the street, one day,
Was feeling quite exceptionally merry.
A stranger asked him: "Can you show me, pray,
The quickest way to Brompton Cemetery?"
"The quickest way? You bet I can!" said Gus,
And pushed the fellow underneath a bus.
Whatever people say about my son,
He does enjoy his little bit of fun.

This is very weird. Someone with a small child called Augustus, usually known as Gus, both being present here last night, recited that verse to me.

Weird indeed.
I wonder what caused NO FM2R to dredge up the old report? Has it been in the news, and had the child perhaps read it and immediately associated it with the bus rhyme, as I did?
It's like the crossword clues that revealed the D-day landing beaches - no apparent connection, but too weird to be just coincidence.

The "Most Popular" bit on the Beeb news website is often dredging up stuff from the past, it's a recent bug they are trying to fix.

As Smokie said, the "most popular" bit throws up some weird stuff, especially when viewing from abroad. Usually I look for the date, but for some reason I forgot this morning.
