I have two cell phones with two different companies in Chile.
Cell Phone A
Can SMS to anyone I want in the UK including Mother, Friend A and Friend B. And these SMS are received.
Receive SMS from anyone including my Mother, Friend A and Friend B
Cell Phone B
Can SMS to anyone I want in the UK including Mother, Friend A and Friend B. And these SMS are received.
Receive SMS from my Mother and Friend A. But Friend B cannot SMS me. Gets an "invalid number" error whether he is writing a text from scratch or replying to one of mine.
Both phones seem similarily set up, but in any case sending is not my issue.
Both Chilean cell phone operators insist everything is working properly
Does anybody have a bright idea? I'm pretty much out of ideas/avenues to even pursue.

Have you tried swapping the sim card around in your chilean phones?
Is friend B and friend A on the same network?
|
I have tried swapping the SIMs. The problem moves with the SIMs. Neither phone is SIM-locked.
I do not know if A & B are on the same network, but its a thought. However, I can understand why that might stop Friend B SMS to Chile completely, but why to one only of my phones?
I know my Mother's is Vodafone.
If anybody here has Orange, T-Mobile or O2 and would care to e-mail me their number (I wouldn't suggest posting it in the forum), then I could text them and see if they are able to reply to me.

its a shame you dont live in england around the 1950's... every public phone had button A or B , wasnt life so much easier then
|
Happy to Mark. I'll email my O2 moby to the mods...
|
I think I've got T Mobile at the moment. I too will forward it to the authorities.
|
Humph - my profile is open, the e-mail address is no_fm2r@outlook.com
thanks.
|
OK done...Bin my request ta Rob !
|
Just click on his profile for his email. I've emailed my Orange.
|
Text sent to Hump, MapMaker and AC. I've had delivery receipts.
I'm hoping that you've received and can reply.
I do appreciate your help.
thank you.
|
Nothing here yet, but it's a long way from Chile isn't it?
I'll reply if it lands later.
:-)

Are you still on the same number from your mod days, which ends in 43?

Nope. And if you think about it, you'll realise that was not a Chilean number. :-)

Confused.

Big silver bird in sky take Welsh geezer live in Chile...Needed new phone. British one mucho expensivo in Chile..
:-)

I forgot to say that I don't have mobile reception in the house. But I will walk 50 yards and it will squeak.
|
I did, and it didn't. Tomorrow perhaps.
|
The problem is almost certainly with your network operator for phone B.
Has friend B's number ended up on their spam blocking list perchance?
Do they have an opt-in for international SMS?
Can friend B voicecall phone B?

>> The problem is almost certainly with your network operator for phone B.
Swopping the Sim more or less proved it.
|
I sent three texts, one to each person, all on different networks.
Two have received nothing.
One has received the same text three times
The one who has received it three times has texted me and I have received nothing.
I think the problem is this end.
But I do thank you all for your help so far.
|
Let's see if I can help you with the finer points of the translation when you speak to them....
Oi Pablo ! Phonio, no workio, savvy? No textio comprende?
:-)
|
Shout, very loudly. Its the local way anyway.
|
Mmmm, it'll be a bit more like;
You signed a contract.
But it doesn't work, and its the fault of Claro Chile, so I want to cancel.
You signed a contract.
You said it would work.
I'm working here because I'm pretty, not because I have a clue what you're talking about. I probably couldn't text my mother next door, never mind internationally, I don't understand, or in fact care, what you're talking about
Fix it or cancel it.
You signed a contract.
It will then be down to stamina......

He has now received it five times. Every ten minutes exactly. And curiously, time-stamped exactly the same each time.
If this goes on all night... ;)

& again...
You can let me know tomorrow how to block messages from you on an iPhone. ;)
|
I am hanging my head in shame. All I can say is that tomorrow I am intending to take it out on the nearest Claro employee.
|
Does the problem that I had sound like the same thing? Because if it is I haven't fixed it!

Sorry Duncan, its quite different.
Are you still having your issue? Hhaving read your thread, it seems Zero was quite correct;
I noticed because its so damned unusual. He doesn't really understand technology, you see.

I went out again today with the mobile, spent a few minutes where there was a signal but no text came in. Usually they appear the moment there's a signal.
But as with computers, mobiles aren't quite 100%. There are glitches and unexplained lacunae.

Mapmaker,
I do hope the texts have stopped.
It seems that Claro Chile have a problem. I am assured that its not their fault and that its pure coincidence that Claro Peru and Claro Argentina have the same problem with Europe whereas Entel do not.
Seemingly only Claro to Vodafone UK is reliable, and even then not 100%.
Thanks for your help guys.
|
Yes, thank you, they stopped later that night!
Did my texts ever arrive?
|
No, I never received any texts.
I've changed to Entel which works, but its data offering is pretty pathetic (600mb per month for £35ish). Fortunately there is WiFi in the majority of places I go.
Thanks for the help.
