I have a 30m Hozelock Flexi Plus hose pipe on a reel. It's yellow with a grey stripe and I think that's what it's called.

I've had it 5 years and it gets used almost every day in Summer but it's started to kink badly and there seems to be no way to straighten it out again.

The kinks can't be seen but it just won't go where it should go and if I pull it
it kinks again.

Is it time to give up and buy a new one?

Yes. There are better,soft to touch non kink hoses out there!

It has twists "set" into it by the reel. Try pulling the whole hose off the reel and twist the free end to get the grey stripe as straight as possible, this will be easier on a warm day when the hose is a little softer. Reels are bad news, the best way to store a hose is to coil it flat on the ground and then hang it up. Think old grey bearded sailor coiling a rope. :-)

Exactly ON, think lorry driver coiling a rope too!

We gave up on the reel a couple of years ago and fixed a big hook on the wall and hung it there in neat coils but whenever the sun comes out and it gets warm, it all goes into a huge figure of eight.

Anyone got one of those Hozelok automatic hose reels?

Standard reinforced green hose every time. Mine is 12 years old, on a hose reel, still working fine.

Gardena 50 Metre Comfort SkinTech Hose is the best IMO
- 18-year warranty
NOT cheap.

Stored on a Hasel reel - also NOT NOT cheap.

That is because you are not getting the twists out of it as you coil it.

That's the problem though ON, they just go back in as fast as you get them out.

Think it may be time to try the posh one above!

Thanks Henry, just had a look at the Gardena hose and it's not too bad a price...I think Santa might oblige!

Pat, replace it with a lot of air brake suzies connected in series! As you know, they're flexible and they come in a nice yellow colour.

Now there's a thought L'es, although I have been known to forget to disconnect them and drive off. 0)

They stretch miles and never go back into shape again so you have to use a bunjee and hook them up to the roof of the cab!
