Well done Mutt, I enjoyed that.

Fantastic music Dog nice start to the morning.>:)
|
And, as my sister said "I wish I was there" :)
|
Like it very much indeed....
In England it would probably end up with some jobsworth asking
'do you have a licence to perform music in the open air'.?.....
|
Or it may end up in something like this which I also like very much - planned by the bloke in the green shirt for a BBC programme.. most of the dancers are volunteers who had never danced before IIRC ..

I'll wager Dutchie could give us a few lessons in Klompendanskunst.

>> Brilliant!
Don't know exactly why, but I don't like it, and not just because I don't like that tune.
Why is it brilliant - what makes it better than a group setting up in a town square, starting at an advertised time and playing a programme of music? (This isn't having a go at you Dog - just pondering 'out loud'.) Presumably it's the surprise element, as they could put on a better quality performance by sitting down with music in front of them. I can understand this to a point, but to me it just comes across as a bit pretentious.
Sorry - I feel better now :)

Because lots of people don't realise that their soul can be stirred by classical music. If you advertised a performance they would purposefully avoid it, not realising that if they only gave themselves a chance they would be introduced to something beautiful. This hijacks their interest for a few brief moments to give them that chance.
Think also of the young children who witnessed it. It's something that they'll remember for ever. To them, a group suddenly appearing and playing wonderful music is a kind of magic.
I don't know why you don't like the tune - it is one of the most stirring and uplifting themes ever composed (though maybe I get your drift if you are thinking about its connection with the Fourth Reich, sorry "EU").
I loved it, and I am not the least bit pretentious. What? Pretentious? Moi? ;-)
|
Good points Londoner - I can see that it's a good way of exposing people (including kids) to classical music in an accessible way, which must be a Good Thing and to be encouraged.
I'm sure there are tunes I like which you don't, and I wouldn't understand why :)
So ok, I accept it's 'brilliant' for what it might accomplish. But it doesn't mean I have to enjoy it :)

Perhaps you need to look at it again Focus, look at the joy on the peoples faces, sure I know there were a few bum notes being played there, but that makes it even better IMO.
It speaks to my soul in a way, a group of musicians bringing joy to a more-than surprised group of passers by.
I can listen to music or watch a band/group/orchestra at any time, but that was something completely different.
>>Sorry - I feel better now :)<<
Watch it, or I may do a Zero!
:)

Usually I'm with Dog, but tonight I'm with Focus. Didn't take to that one at all for lots of reasons.
So much for my holiday relaxing me! Back to the grind.
|
Sorry Dog - I was just trying to analyse why you (and others) find it so great, and I don't. Bit of a pointless exercise really - different strokes for different folks and all that.
|
>>Sorry Dog - I was just trying to analyse why you (and others) find it so great, and I don't<<
Why apologise for expressing your personal opinion Focus, I don't like Eastenders or Coronation St.,
but I would never apologise for that fact :}

What?? That's it, I'm off.
:)
|
>>What?? That's it, I'm off<<
And me! - I've had enough of you lot going on and on at one another, I'm going to see if I can start a new forum, with (now let me see) there's Zero for a start.
And how's about that Gordon Bennett character?? and Herr Sandwichmann (who?) Dr_Rubber, Cheddar? wilco?
Espada III, midlifecrisis? oldnotbold? NowWheels, Bellboy (do you get my drift??)
:-)

What has happened to Zero has he emigrated Dog.?

Your guess is as good as mine Dutchie - perhaps he never existed at all and was just a figment of our imagination.

Talking of Z and EastEnders, wasn't he a big fan? Was always going on about how good it is.

The music the happy faces it is nice to watch.Says the other.>:)

I'm not a great lover of classical music, but flash dances cheer me no end. It's the surprise aspect of it.
I stay firmly rooted on bank holidays so I'll be recording this to watch later in the day: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mfhrj

1980's ... when was that then?

I know you're more of a rock/blues man, er.. Dog, but I think the 80s were a great period for pop music. Some really good tunes, and the singers still sang, which isn't always the case with the more modern stuff.
Nik Kershaw is touring now (or soon) performing the whole of his 'Human Racing' album ('I won't let the sun go down on me', 'wouldn't it be good', 'dancing girls', 'the riddle'). I had a ticket to see him at Leeds Uni union about 27 years ago but the gig was cancelled due to a fire alarm IIRC; I feel I ought to try again, although it does depend on whether the local gig is at a venue with comfortable seats :)

I'm mid-to-late 60's musically speaking (I left part of my brain back there as well)
My favourite classical composition is Rimsky Korsakov's Shekherezada which I was introduced to in the mid 70's.
But then I like any good music really and I enjoyed that Irene Cara video mucho
I have my computer sound output connected to a Sony micro Hi-Fi and a pair of Monitor Audio bronze B2's,
so everything sounds brilliant to me :)

>>Don't know exactly why, but I don't like it,
I don't know why exactly, but I found it grated a bit. And I love that tune, classical music generally and the whole flash mob idea.
I did enjoy the sight of smiling people, especially children, so I'd always rather they did it than not. I think it was the video which kind of struck a bad note; I think the soundtrack was re-recorded which is always annoying.
So, not really sure why, but loved the flashmob yet disliked the video of it.
As for classical music; I have one child who loves it, the other who dislikes it. I don't really mind whether or not they like it, I'm just pleased that they know for themselves.
...and anything which shows classical music in an accessible and light-hearted setting can only be good.

I was pleased to see that all the string instruments had been cleaned and polished so that there was no old resin/rosin dust showing.
