On Sunday I bought a Buy It Now item. It took me through to PayPal where I paid for the item. I definitely am not dreaming.
I thought it odd that I didn't get the usual congratulatory email from eBay, nor a confirmation of my payment from PayPal.
Having received no emails several hours later, I checked both sites and there is no record of either transaction.
What#'s going on there then?

Is the item still listed for sale~?
|
I can't bring any logic to it, probably the opposite, but I'd be changing my passwords.
|
There were four of them for sale IIRC - not sure when it ended. it was for a bit of computer kit - a wireless access point - but tbh I can't remember which one it was...can't see it there now though, and I can see others I looked at as their font shows the ones I've clicked on.
password change was on my mind too...
|
The PC wasn't logged in to somebody else's account was it? Seems unlikely anyway, as you still have to enter your PayPal password...
|
No, it's my pc, no-one else uses it
I remember distinctly changing the delivery address in PayPal, so even if I made a hash of completing that, I should have had the eBay confirmation...

Something similar happened to me a few weeks ago, but unfortunately I can't remember the exact details ie. whether I decided I had been dreaming, or whether I eventually found evidence that I had bought it. Your post is making making me think about it again though...

No money has gone out of my account. I know the "name" of the seller as I'd recorded it for some reason, but I can't find any items from that seller live in eBay. There is a front page of a web site for the same name, selling the right kind of stuff, but hardly any of the second layer of pages exist.
My eBay and PayPal passwords are still the ones that I set up so son't appear to have been hijacked.
Weird...
I'm dropping an enquiry to eBay about it...

Perhaps all four had been sold/paid for by the time you tried to make the payment?
|
Hmm - pretty sure I completed the payment process - and you usually get a note congratulating you on winning the auction.

So you're only "pretty" sure you completed the process, and there's no record of it in your account, no email from ebay etc. etc. I'm "pretty" sure you didn't complete the process. :)
Presumably a Buy It Now where the purchase is deemed not to happen until you actually pay for it. A very sensible approach for those vending with BINs so as to avoid NPBs.
|
Well OK I said I am only pretty sure I completed the PayPal because there is nothing evidential to prove it, and some Doubting Thomas (or, in this case, Mappy :-) ) would eventually come along and doubt I'd completed it... In myself, I'm positively *sure* I did complete it fully.
The proof of completing the purchase on eBay is that I definitely absolutely remember going into PayPal via the Pay Now link, and changing the delivery address. You get thrown into PayPal once the eBay purchase is complete, by which time the eBay congratulations email has already been triggered. Also from the PayPal screen I noted the seller name into a spreadsheet I keep, hence why I can recall it.
I really can't see any outcome other than"user error" but the facts as I know them don't point to that.

I once got up an hour early because my digital alarm clock had gained an hour. Naturally Mrs F blamed user error, but eventually I discovered that when setting the alarm if you press a couple of buttons at once you can actually change the main time (without touching the 'set time' button). So I believe you smokie :)

A surprisingly quick response from eBay...
"I've reviewed your eBay account and can confirm that Gigabit Wireless Access item not showing on Purchase history page. From what you have mentioned, it seems the item listed with immediate payment option and system took you on PayPal site for payment immediate after confirming your purchase. It seems due to temporary glitch on the site your transaction was not recorded. I apologise for the inconvenience which may have caused to you.
In order to investigate this issue, I request you please reply this email with the item number. You will find the item number on the listing page under the description section."
Seems they don't doubt it happened.
But I don't have the listing number, nor the will to follow it up, so as it seems to have cost me nothing I'll just buy and alternative.
|
The listing number will be in you E-Bay summary page, click on "Buying" you should be able to find it in there.
|
Nah - there is no record in eBay of it...

...Nah - there is no record in eBay of it...
I know you are not too fussed, but is there a record of it in your browser history?
I discovered some time ago it's possible to go back through dozens of pages in Safari.
|
Can you not find a copy of the original listing by going to the advanced search facility and checking the box for include completed sales.
My terminology may be a little sloppy - but you should get the drift.....
I have had endless 'odd' things happen when changing the delivery address from the Paypal payment/delivery page, never really got to the bottom of it. I could swear i have changed it on some occassions and it still sends to the first on my list!

A doubting Mapmaker... ;)
