Servicing a solar thermal (water) system? - Haywain
Hi, I just wonder if anyone has any experience of the maintenance required on a solar thermal system. Ours was installed 5 years ago and has been churning away merrily ever since - well, until now! Whilst it still appears to be working, a red warning light has lit up on the control unit. Of course, the original installers have 'been taken over' by an existing company - who have quoted me £250+vat to come and have a look at it. Is this the normal sort of charge for attending a solar system? If so, such a charge every five years would virtually wipe out any gains made from the system.

The difficulty really comes when you need to find an independent engineer - they don't seem to exist. As it stands, I'm not sure that I'd recommend a solar thermal system to anyone.

Thanks for the link, Smokie, there's a load of stuff to wade through on there! To be honest, I didn't realise it was so complicated.
