 Smelly boots - Rudedog
After my walking trip my boots are honking! Any working recommendations to deodorise them, either home made or over the counter.

Tip some bicarbonate of soda into them & leave for 24 hours before shaking them out.

Boots sell own-brand shoe deodoriser and foot deodoriser. They both work fo me.

I think I might give the bicarb a go as it's cheap and then see if I need to get more brutal!

If you can get the innersoles out I had some success by soaking in vinegar, leaving and then washing.

remove laces. Shove them through the washing machine with a few old towels. Or tennis balls if you have a half-dozen or so.
cold-wash, normal amount of powder, a squirt of dishwashing liquid.
Remove, soak in a bucket of water/dettol mix overnight. rinse well, and stuff with newspaper to keep the shape, then leave to dry out. Don't force-dry them.

re-dubbin, if neccesary, and sprinkle the inside with bicarb.

BUT if the midsole is polyurethane, they may have PU rot - well known stink-causer in running shoes. Then it is viking burila time.

Some years ago I worked in customer services at Allsports (remember them?).

We regularly got telephone calls along the lines of 'I washed my Adibokike superdominators in the washing machine and now they have fallen apart - give me my money back'

Our normal response was 'Where in the care instructions does it say you can machine wash them? Can't find it? Sorry, no refund'

I would therefore be careful before following Ian's advice, especially if the boots are leather.

Daughter got me an aerosol of something for my whiffy trainers. Absolute magic, worked a treat. Tried some Scholls stuff when in the US, it wasn't as good but also helped.

I keep 4-5 pairs of work boots and rotate them as my Plates have a tendency to stink. Works for me.

I did the same job for Cobra Sports - remember them?
*grin*

For any half-decent hiking boot, a gentle wash (cold, no spin cycle!) will spruce them up.
They'll lose some suppleness in the leather parts, hence the re-dubbin.
