I am considering a day trip from Heysham to the Isle of Man to watch the Senior TT on Friday. The return ferry gets back into Liverpool at 02.15 on Saturday morning.
I then have the problem of getting back to Heysham to pick up my car! Any ideas how I might best do this, or should I do it the other way round; leave my car at Liverpool and travel to Heysham to get the ferry?

I am a bit drunk but the simply answer is you can't. Even a private hire is going to cost you about £30 plus quid but that might work out cheaper. The cheapest option maybe to stay on the island another day and get the return Ferry to where you left your car. Can you not take your car on the ferry thus it doesn't matter?
I wont go into scouse jokes, but in terms of parking prices alone I would not think it was worth while leaving your car in Scouserpool city centre although modern Scousers work for Home Bargains (aka TJ Morris) rather than nick your Skoda branded car radio in exchange for a fake bottle of Vodka.

>> Even a private hire is going to cost you about £30 plus quid
70+ quid more like, it's 66 miles. The OP might get a slightly better price by pre-booking a Heysham cab to come and meet them off the boat at Liverpool.
As it's a day trip, isn't there a coach service to link up the two ends of the journey? You can't be the only person with this dilemma.

V difficult! According to Transport Direct it would take you about 3-4 hours by Public Transport and involve 3 buses and a train!
www.transportdirect.info/Web2/JourneyPlanning/JourneyDetails.aspx?cacheparam=4
Heysham not easy to get in and out of by PT.
Liverpool to Lancaster by train then cab would be much easier. (03.38 train still takes 3hrs 21 mins though!!)

But there is also a ferry from IoM back to Heysham at 8pm on Friday - could you not get that?
Or do a return trip from Liverpool?

Thank you for the replies. I have had a look on Traveline.com? and that looks horrendous.
So, at the moment I have gone back to plan B, which looks like a flight from Gatwick to Douglas at 08.45, returning at 18.00 or thereabouts.
I should be able to see the noddy bikes at 10.00 and the Senior TT at 13.00. Flight £322 and parking £11.
I did fancy a bit more time over there, but it soon gets complicated.

Take the car on the ferry with you! - then you have transport to different vantage points and places whilst you are there and the car when you get back - "Easlies!"
|
Leave the car at Liverpool, leave plenty time and get public transport to Heysham.
On your return from the IoM your car will be waiting ............unless thieving scousers are around.
|
Oh, how funny the 'thieving scouser' jokes are.
Like any city, it all depends where you leave it. Sure, a dodgy back street will leave you wide open, whether it be thieving scousers, mancunians, cockneys, glaswegians etc.
Liverpool has a number of Q Parks in the city centre which are new, attended, and safe. Your car would be fine there.
Ps - £30 for a taxi ride from Liverpool to Heysham??? £30 will get you to Southport. Heysham is a long walk from there.

Happier to park my car in Liverpool than certain places I've been to. Certainly no less safe than Manchester.

"Certainly no less safe than Manchester."
That's not really saying much is it !
|
Rattle seems to think it might !
|
As a slight aside is there any TV coverage of the TT
|
9pm to 10pm every night on ITV4.
It's on now!
|
Just watched tonight's offering - brilliant start.

Guy Martins not doing so well this year.
Not going to bed until after 10pm is doing nothing for our early starts!

I never leave anything on display, and apply a grey/yellow Stoplock to the steering wheel wherever I park. Having a nondescript, fairly modern (therefore quite secure, alarmed) car helps. I'd be happy to leave it anywhere and expect it to still be in one piece when I get back.

As I intimated at 11.18 on Tuesday, I have gone back to plan B.
I have now booked and paid for, a flight from Gatwick at 08.55 on Friday, returning at 17.45 the same day.
The return ticket is open, so if the Senior is postponed for any reason, I can come back Saturday, Sunday, Monday? Who knows? The world is my lobster!
It was the 02.15 arrivals on the ferry that I was struggling to get my head round, rather than the thought of my alloys being nicked.

Update.
Flew to the IOM on Friday in accordance with plan B.
No racing!! All races postponed to Saturday, found a hotel, checked that I could switch my return flight to Saturday and moved into the hotel.
A very enjoyable day in Douglas. Walked part of the course, had a look round the grandstand and pits area. Walked down Bray Hill to Quarter Bridge, found a satisfactory pub with a good viewing position and made a mental note to myself to come back there the next day.
During the evening the Promenade was closed for a group of guys doing stunts and tricks on motorbikes, good fun.
Saturday morning checked out of the hotel, bought a packed lunch and strolled up to Quarter Bridge and settled to wait for the start of the racing.
And waited.
And waited.
Eventually by early afternoon, we heard that the Lightweight TT was postponed until 3.30pm and the Senior until 5.30pm. My flight was at 5.20, so I decided not to risk missing the flight and made my way back to the airport.
So I didn't see any racing.
Nothing.
Not a minute.
Zilch.
What a waste!

At least you got to visit a new place (assuming you've never been there before).
|
I was wondering how you'd got on ITV4 had very good coverage all week but I didn't catch the programme (if one went out !) on the senior race -sorry that you missed any racing at all.

The Senior TT didn't run at all, at all. First time ever - apparently?
|
>> At least you got to visit a new place
Unfortunately not. I have been there before.
