Of too Turkey in a week or two, and just started to contemplate the rats' nest and collection of chargers needed for my phone, her phone, two different cameras
Does anyone have any experience of mobile solar chargers like the freeloader - www.solartechnology.co.uk/freeloader-solar-chargers.htm
It might cut down on weight, and if it clouds over on the Turkish coast, we'll be stuffed anyway

A wind-up charger would be cheaper and leave you with no worries about the weather:

You can get one which is both solar AND USB-chargeable. Sorry I haven't the details on me at present, but effectively you can charge the thing up from your PC before you go, and leave it in a window somewhere to grab the sun's rays to keep it going. Comes with a set of connectors to make it a universal charger as well. Failing that, most half-decent hotels ahve a plethora of chargers available.
*thinks - you are on HOLIDAY FFS, why do you need a phone?*

If she takes hers, I can ring her when she's on the beach, tell her which bar I'm in and how many more beer vouchers she can bring for me - that's the only phone use it would get, but as audio book player, music player and radio, geocaching gps and standby camera, it may get a bit of stick - and of course in common with most 'smart' phones, if you use it for anything much, it will require charging most days of the week

Ok, makes some sort of sense.
(Though I'd hate to think what Turkish Radio is going to be like...)
I'll try to grab a brandname/spec off that solar charger later, BTW.

me neither, but the last time we went all the bars and cafes were playing europarp. Specifically, half of them were playing Saturday Night (Whigfield ?) and the other half were playing the Macarena (who cares?). Whatever the local station plays cannot be any worse

You want to bet?
Off the top of my head:
Agadoo
Ace of Base
The Birdie Song
Oops Up side ya Head
Milli Vanilli
Modern talking
Now, you'll have that stuck in your head for days.
Thank me later.

I'm looking for the sort of local radio station that will be playing the 'Kemal Ataturk Boogie' (*) or 'Shake your Yashmak' - something with local flavour
(*) Better get that sort of thing out of the system - making that sort of joke can be akin to asking the airport security guard what to do with your exploding underpants......

did you know...
In one area of Istanbul, all the McDs are decorated in black and white. This is because of the locals' fierce hatred of Galatasary, who play in red and yellow.
|
|
The McD`s in the telly adverts are now a "Drab" Olive-Green, with the Yellow "M". Red an s Yellow seem to have been killed off along with the "Hamburglar" and "Ronald"!

I've seen a man on QVC demonstrate this wind-up torch charger:
www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.565462.cm_scid.KeywordSearch
When he did, it got the charging bars on his Nokia phone going well with just a few winds of the handle.

I had a wind up torch - you turned it on and it didn't work. Always wound me up that.
|
I had one which worked OK for a few years, but after that I had to wind it all the time to get any light.
|
|
All the wind up ones get poor review for their charging functionality, but I notice Aldi are doing a solar charger for under £10 on thursday - I might wander in and see if its worth a punt - one the whole, all their tech stuff seems to me reasonable
