How about.
Staff ask family not to light candles due to fire hazard
Family Threaten staff
Police called.
Very likely scenario. BUt not so newsworthy.

How about
Family want to light cake candles
Staff say breach of H&S don't do it
Family make blunt and relevant comments and go into car park
Police called anyway - grounds unclear
No police action taken = waste of time and resources

I have seen both scenarios happen actually.
I'll go with my version as there are some inconstancies int he original.

Looking at the little chav and the expression he's pulling at the camera, I'm going to side with the nursery here.

Meanwhile, whilst the copper was beating his head against the wall mumbling to himself why do i do it, probably for the unpteenth time that day.....

Agreed. He should be tagged immediately and closely monitored. He's a would-be pyromaniac if ever I saw one. Anyone who can hold a candle with that kind of restrained grin on his face should be kept well clear of birthday cakes, or he will surely progress to litter bins, petrol cans, and empty warehouses.

Inevitable Cliff given the mother's hair colour(s).

I'm more sympathetic to Meldrew's interpretation. That would be my reaction too.

I would be interested to know why they didn't accept the offer of the alternative location under supervision, albeit with a bit of a moan of course.
|
I would suspect the problem was that they had not booked and paid for a party, therefore were not allowed in the designated area. Hence the staff objecting to the party - as the family had already left the building I think it was waste of police time and hope they got a severe talking to.

Wasn't needed on this occasion as the URL didn't expand the page.

Given the lack of police interest, and therefore presumably evidence to the contrary, I'm also more inclined to believe that it was a case of
I'm being intimidated = These people are arguing with me and ignoring my "authority"
