Finally I can log in and Post thanks to the moderator. Its only taken 6 years (elapsed)!

You may have wondered why there were no posts in this introduce yourself section from 2018 to
2025 but I suspect accounts were not being enabled after validation and would be new members gave up. I recall the then moderator being unable to find the error despite many emails so I just gave up and resigned myself to just looking at posts.

I registered at the beginning of 2019 as someone asked a question in the computing section to which I knew the answer. unfortunately I can no longer remember the question! Or the answer

Anyway I can post now thanks to the moderators quick action when I tried again to get the account enabled.

Welcome aboard Silverback!!

The issue apparently was http v https somewhere in the validation process.

Only came to light very recently after speculation as to the future of the Honest John forum which begat this one c2010 and new members wanting to sign up.

Welcome to C4P Silverback. I don't know what went wrong 6 years ago as it only took a few seconds to sort out the problem when you recently emailed me.

Actually this is only a very small fish in a rather large pond of other forums, and was primarily a temporary retreat when the HJ forum had problems following a change of web developers. Other plans for this forum never materialised.

There have been quite a few members who have joined since 2018, but most didn't bother to introduce themselves. Just like a lot of other forums, they'd ask a question and then never bothered returning regardless of whether their question was answered or not.

The validation process was put in place to help stop bots from creating accounts and posting spam. It also served another purpose to help stop trouble makers creating another account after a ban was served and posting again without first being vetted.

It's only recently come to light the http / https problem, and that I was no longer receiving registration emails.

Forums in general are dying though and facebook groups are becoming the norm at the moment.

I can understand forums. I joined some facebook groups but I sometimes see the same message in several groups, and there seems to be no easy way to have a conversation. I need a manual!

I'm in a few Facebook groups.

Some, like that for people with the same make/model of caravan as me, work OK. They are though not discussion forums but about issues like experience at sites or 'why does the heating not work' cries for help.

Others associated with my lifelong interest in aircraft don't work so well. OK if it's a heads up for an unusual visiting aircraft at airport x but much less so for informed discussion.

No easy provision for FAQs either. I've lost track of the number of times I've explained that planes flying into (eg) Leeds or Birmingham will sometimes need to fly an orbit at some point to add sufficient track miles to lose height or to sequence them with other traffic.
