Well if you want to find the equivalent, here it is.....careful mild swear word.

i suppose we'll need some ether puns to go with it
Wasn't sure where to put this, it's a motoring product but posted mainly cos i love Aussie humour.

Apart from the TeeHee factor how is it meant to work. Does it disperse damp from ignition harnesses, it is sprayed into the carb intake -what carb? Is it somehow got into the air intake of the injection system? Do tell!
|
Does it work on body parts. Thought Zero might need a lift....(0-:-0)

Highly flammable liguid, will form a very flammable vapour, simply spray into your air intake, if you have a spark the engine will fire, if Diesel it will start violently.
Bradex? Easy Start was the tin we always kept lying around, i've still got about half a tin left, i don't like using it and i haven't seen it on sale for years.
If you glow plugs failed you could start a Diesel engine instantly with frightening noises too as the ether is far more volatile than Diesel.
They always used to say once you've got your engine hooked on easy start it would always need it.
Useful hand held flame thrower too if you light the jet..;)

Friend of mine back in the early 80's worked for the NCB.... one of the favourite tricks to get the shunters out of their cabin on a cold night was to drop an empty can of Easy Start down the chimney of their hut.

It's still readily available. I buy it (from Halfords) for my lawnmower. tinyurl.com/7l8222o

Breakdown chappy used it a few years ago when Xantia sat down on Mother out Law's drive to prove engine would fire. Awful noises.
Problem was actually lack of fuel due a failed lift pump.

I perk up when anyone mentions a Bradex product; I installed their first accounting system in 1970-something.

Well i'm amazed, haven't seen a fresh tin of Easy start for donkeys years and you lot find 'em on shelves and in job lots.

Yup, at my old work one of the owner drivers had an 04 Sprinter that was addicted to "Sniff". Fortunately Sprinters have an air intake grille in the offside wing, so the technique was to stand in front of the open door, reach over the hinges and turn the ignition key whilst spraying Easy Start in through the wing. Never failed.
It was complicated by the fact the the handbrake used to sieze on though, so he always left it off....

Hope he doesn't get as absent minded as me then..;).
On the subject of vans, my mate's up to now faithful Tranny failed him recently, simply died and after towing in needed new fuel pump and recon injectors apparently..kerching, he reckons it's lost its power now and they say it needs EGR at around £200...not getting involved in this he hasn't taken it where i would have done.
Its probably about the same age as the Sprinter you mention, when they go wrong these days its an expensive game.
I'm beginning to wonder if buying a petrol van and LPGing might be the way forward for some, not as i'm going to suggest it to him, he neglects his vehicles far too much for that imo, neglect chickens might be coming home to roost there.
I know a goodly number of Berlingos were suppied in petrol form LPG converted, but not really seen anything larger, have some larger vans operators gone down that route i wonder?

Ref. LPGing commercials. Ford make Trannies ready converted for the local authority market. Quite popular for lightweight bin emptying and so forth, as they are quieter than diseasal equivalent and therefore useful for use in the early hours in residential areas.

Didn't know that, used to deliver them and other similar sized vehicles in quantity and didn't come across a petrol engine for probably the last 10 years.
I notice the local council have an account where i fill my car up...gone up 68p this week by the way...good for them, the site i use is about 11p per litre cheaper than BP across town.

When you add on the £6.50 postage, the price per can is 1p more expensive than Halfords. tinyurl.com/7l8222o

It was always a good way of confirming fuel problems for bodgers like me, if it failed to fire with ES then electrical fault it usually was.

The thread on the Mk2 Escort reminded me that Easy Start was the only way of coaxing my Mk2 1.3L into life in anything other than dry, sunny weather.
|
Carb Cleaner works much the same as Easy Start, its just a little less harsh...
