TomTom have released an update for the operating systems of the following units.
Version 9.400

It has done my 720 a world of good, it now works like the latest models.

Thanks, on my XXL that's given me a much clearer status bar and an option to switch 3d/2d on the bar itself which I find useful.

My TT710 which came with my Altea has just died this weekend.
Well sort of works whilst plugged in though keeps trying to switch itself off.
Wont work at all on battery.
But the price of these units will forever stop me from ever ordering a car with b
uilt in satnav.

I replaced the battery in my 720 with one from this outfit, it has lasted longer than the original one.

Still do those stick on sat navs then do they? Gosh..
"Thou wouldst be best advise'd to venture left at the turnpike in 5 leagues" sort of thing?
;-)

Just hope that when you are a pensioner you can afford new cars, unlimited fuel, and a stick on satnav.:-)

I don't have the option ON. Have to work until I can't and then...

I'd rather have the stick on satnav than a Mercedes when I was working and starve now.

Me too actually...hey ho...
:-)

As the salty old seadog says, replace the battery - easy to do
|
These are the instructions for my battery replacement, I expect yours are there as well.

They are ON, not exactly the easiest procedure to follow though if I remove every screw then that will be a start!

Recently changed from Garmin to the TomTom "integrated" into the Toyota. Used it in unknown territory for the first time last week across Northern Spain and South-West France, and whilst the routing was reasonable (apart from directing me along sections of the A8 autovia that are still being constructed), the indicated speed limits were incorrect on probably 50% of the route. Hope the latest map update just downloaded corrects some of them. Unlike the Garmin there is no tracklog, so it is difficult to report map errors.
Incidently, this software update appears to delete all existing data on the TomTom, i.e., recent destinations, personal POIs; so it may be useful to make a note prior to update of any ones where this is the only record of an address.

Didn't on mine. All recents, POI's, favourites, etc all in tact.

Same here. I did the OS update and installed a new map and all mine survived.

On thinking about it, a new map usually wipes all the recents, favourites, etc, but did not this time. Must be one of the "bug fixes" in the V9.400 OS. I know you can save the file containing the recents, favourites, etc and reinstall it into the new map but I normally didn't bother.

Depends what and how the update is done (by TT) if they just replace certain parts of the map within the directory all user data will stay.
If they replace the whole directory, and or the way the map handler works, data will go.

The clever bit is putting it back together. :-)

I've just checked my own navigational equipment and am shocked to find that I am still using the 2010 version AA Road Atlas.
Must get myself to the Pound shop for an urgent update.

Some people have commented, on the TomTom forum, that their screens are less sensitive to finger "Taps" for data input. I have found this and now have to use the tip of a ball point pen. Anybody else noticed this? I like the new layout and symbology. It also mentions, in the release notes, that one now gets an average speed readout when in a specs zone.
Full release notes here (maybe you have to have a TT account to read it?) tinyurl.com/6swl5n9

My screen is a little less sensitive, but not to the point of it being a problem. I have noticed that it latches onto the satellites and figures out where it is faster if I have moved location with it switched off.

Tomtom have released another software update (9.401) for the "Go" models. I believe it is a bug fix for the recent 9.400 release.

Well thanks to ON's recommendation, ordered a new battery from Batterymill and fitted it following the instructions available on Youtube.
All I need is a car to use it in now but that's for another thread!
