The defendant may not be very bright - 'previous' included a fine for driving to his first court appearance without insurance.

Four years to think about the fact he killed two innocent people which will (hopefully) haunt him for the rest of his life.
if you sentenced him to 50 years hard labour it wouldn't bring back the dead.
If you hanged him by the neck it wouldn't deter any Jack the Lad from doing the self same thing again, alas.

About right Dog. If 4 years in jail thinking about what they have done doesn't make a difference to someone 50 years won't either.

Trouble is .. after 4 years in jail - he is likely to do the same thing again..
I suggest permanent reduction to his testosterone levels - through amputation.

It would be if he didn't virtually automatically get out after serving a half.

Is 9 years enough?
Who knows. Maybe it's too much (maybe even 4.5 is too much). Remember that sentence is costing us £40+k p.a. (data four years old)

Having read the article, quite possibly he should be locked up for life as he showed no remorse and has previous. An asylum might be better than prison.

For this sort of toerag can we have a wooden asylum 6 feet x 3 feet with underground access only?

I find it a bit irritating when judges or magistrates say 'this defendant was treating the road as a race track'. The implication is that motor racing is just a reckless free-for-all, which it usually isn't.
It isn't that these ghastly idiots don't fancy themselves as racing drivers. I think they often do. But they would never be allowed to drive competitively on any serious level. Even banger racers generally know what they are doing and have skill and prudence. And most competition drivers, despite the odd high-profile exception, are careful on the road and drive invisibly.

A, It only costs that much because they're mollcoddled in there.
B, I'd happily pay more taxes if they'd lock a few more up.
