Just watched this clip ( on Quest -Freeview Channel 38) on a "new" design of disk brake.
The clip had an English voice over.
Looked an interesting design but
" Sadly, Newtech went offline in 2009 and its investors lost trace of their money. The case is under investigation by the financial authorities. The product will probably never be marketed. I always wondered if the claimed benefits were real (lighter; higher braking power) or simply a pretext for engineers to play with fancy toys all day long."
I assume it was not up to spec or were there vested interests that killed it ?
Lots of other "How its made" clips if you are interested in this sort of prog.

Braking is pretty much limited to the friction between the tyre and the road, at least for a one off emergency event. Better brakes may be good for racers that need to dissipate the heat. That's why a Discovery has the same braking distance as a hot hatch.

Is it this Newtech Brake Corp.?

You can't apply more braking torque to a wheel than is needed to lock the wheel, and any modern disc brake should be capable of doing that.

Long time no see L'es! Keeping well? Focus still running perfectly?

>> Keeping well?
I mustn't grumble. There are lots of people in worse condition than I am.
>> Focus still running perfectly?
More perfectly than I am!

Welcome back, L'es. Always good when the saloon doors burst open to reveal an old friend silhouetted against the fierce midday sun.
