SEAT Alhambra - Another tyre question. - Roger.
Our car will soon need new front tyres (as a minimum).
Our local Wilco Motosave can supply and fit a couple of Cooper (Avon) all season tyres, with the snowflake symbol, I believe) for a fraction over £100 each.
Will this mix - we have Dunlop SPs all round at present - of "normal" tyres on the back and all season on the front be a problem?

I would do so Roger (would prefer all 4 though), but with the proviso that i'd find some quiet out of the way places and experiment in various temps and conditions a bit once the tyres are bedded in, just to get the feel for limits of adhesion, better to know beforehand if there might be an issue.

This might manifest itself unexpectedly in a cold snap when your rear tyres would lose much of their grip just when your new front tyres were coming into their own.

As will be pointed out soon enough the general advice is to fit new to rear, however i imagine like most of us you've been driving long enough to know whats what and make your own informed choices.

Have you got your tin hat on?, i have..;)

I've given up driving as though I was behind the wheel of my Cooper 970S, going round Paddock @ Brands!

Can of worms, but you're supposed to fit the "best" (to me that means grippiest) tyres on the back.

Its front wheel drive so if it were me I would fit the new "snowflake" tyres on the front.

Others will disagree, but I would like the best tyres to be on the driven wheels

I'm not going there. :)

The ones who disagree, with the greatest standing, seem to be the tyre makers.

Roger, I fitted all weathers on the front of my Altea and normals on the back.

So far I haven't ended up in a ditch due to the snow or due to the melting tarmac!
