Due to being on a bit of a downer, decided to see how much it would cost to change car.
Went to Arnold Clark and was initially astounded when the salesman told me that they now value their cars by using Webuyanycars website as this shows the actual money that someone is prepared to pay, so therefore is the only true value of the car!
On thinking about it, and from a comment a neighbour said recently about the low auction prices, I suppose it makes sense!
Anyway, couldn't afford to change so figures all theoretical again......

Is rather strange they would use a competitors website, since it is owned by Car Kraft. I haven't got a clue how much my car is worth, I suspect not very much (£3500 maybe trade in, £4000 private, £4500 dealer).
|
Car have you got Bobby? I should know but its hard to keep up with all the members cars.
|
My '08 Qashqai was recently written off. I'd reckoned it was worth 12K tops. Webuyanycarp valued it at £8.8K. Insurance company paid out £13.5K!

Still thieving gits!
So what did you hope to swap to? You keep mentioning you fancy a change of car.
If Arnold Clark would give you that little, Rattle would have to pay them to take his car. No offence Rattle!

Hyundai ix35 1.7 crdi Premium
Brand new, registered last week
Media pack as well
£17500 (instead of £20k + list price)

Nice swap if the figures worked out.

Alas they didn't, maybe for the better. Due to knowing 4 people who died within 24 hours, youngest being 17, I was in a kind of "you can't take it with you " mood.
In a way, glad I didn't get a deal though it is a really nice car :)
|
Hmm they are 7.5k round here!
|
Any other valuation searches available online? Vauxhall / CAP one seems to involve putting your details in for a dealer to phone you back.

Motor trader attempts to turn a profit shock!
Like most big chain dealers - or any big retailer - Arnold Clark have customers at all satisfaction levels.
The Ford dealer I use is now Arnold Clark.
I didn't think the part-exchange price on my old Focus was brilliant, but what Arnold Clark did have was a very competitive price on a new CC3.
As ever, it's only cost to change which is important.
The Hyundai Bobby's interested in was in short supply at one time.
I don't know if that's still the case - Arnold Clark are offering a discount for cash on list - but it may be they are not prepared to give any extra by over-valuing a part-exchange.
|
>>The Hyundai Bobby's interested in was in short supply at one time.
Bobby was getting a price on a 1.7 - always available as far as I know
The Hyundai that was/is in short supply is the 4wd 2 ltr and 2 ltr auto (IIRC)
Sell privately and buy from a broker...........problem is timing - hiring a car for a couple of weeks is OK waiting for the new car to arrive BUT buying a car and then selling the old one is a worrying time.

It's not that - it's that they're trying to brow-beat people by showing them a WeBuyAnyCar valuation into thinking they're car is worth less than it really is.
The danger for Arnold Clark if they do that is that people will sell their cars to WBAC and then buy a replacement on the internet, used from Tesco etc, or new from DriveTheDeal etc. Where does that leave Arnold Clark's business then?
|
Talking of WBAC, there's been an investgation into how much they offer people when it actually comes to handing over the cheque. They had to change how they do things and sign upto a fair practices scheme. HJ covered it today in the DT.

The Volvo dealer we're looking at changing the MX5 at was totally transparent, allowed us to see the CAP and Glasses valuations and also called Mazda dealers and specialists in our presence to underwrite the value of the car. We're still about a grand apart and have retreated to our corners to consult our seconds though.
|
I wish cars were as cheap in real life as webuyanycar's valuations suggest.
|
Just priced her car up on that site 1500 quid less than an underwritten part-ex value. The car is worth more than that, even the dealer concedes that, bad time of year for the model...
|
Could be a blessing mind...

Telling someone you know so little about the trade you are basing your offer for their car on a website's valuation is hardly brow beating.
As ever, the car is worth what someone's prepared to pay for it.
Part-exchanging a car with Arnold Clark is optional for the motorist, not compulsory.
