The option has been tried before , I did some of he development work for Norwich Union in about 2003. Unless it is much cheaper or some element of compulsion is involved it will not catch on.
The technology is not difficult although the data volumes would potentially be large if it became widespread.

I would actually consider having this fitted (despite being neither young or old) if they could promise a certain cap on the premium. I figure that the insurance cos risk assessment on me isn't that great, so why not judge me on what I actually do instead of what I might statistically do?

Norwich Union/Aviva already tried and then scrapped the idea. Don't know why.

How do we know it will actually reduce the premium?

AS commerdriver says, the logistics of getting the data out of the car, and into the ins co systems, and checking against what might be bespoke policies is huge.

Road pricing has much the same issues. Huge investment on infrastructure required.
