Perhaps they were responsible for digging the trench that looks like the sign's been put on?

Alternatively, companies have fingers in surprising pies. Rentokil were responsible for school meals round my way not so long ago.

Rentokil ran our office canteen for a while. You could say the pies were surprising. After "customer feedback" we changed suppliers.
