 DVLA Sale/Transfer - Ambo
I recently bought a car on part exchange and sent off the Sale/Transfer section of my car registration by Special Delivery on October 26th. It left the Swansea Delivery ofice on the 27th. Do I need to do anything more? I can't find a relevant section on the DVLA website.

I seem to remember reading about someone who was fined because, even though he too had used Special Delivery, DVLA failed to action the transfer and blamed him for not checking with them that it had been done!

You should get a letter from them confirming that you are no longer the regeistered keeper. IIRC they say to contact them if you don't have it after 4 or 6 weeks.

The letter dosn't say much, it's a standard letter whether you sold it, scrapped it or part exchanged it.

But it's up to you to check with them if you don't receive notification. Just had a fine for the same thing on one of the fleet I disposed off.

As an indication of the current DVLA timescale I sold my car on the 18th October and sent the form off, first class, on the same day. I received my acknowledgement letter and road tax refund today.

On the hand, I picked up a new car on Wednesday (November 2nd). The dealer registered it the previous week (October target to meet!!), on Thursday 27th. I received the V5C in the post on Saturday morning (29th), before I'd even paid for the car, never mind picked it up!!

Make sure you do - I just had a letter from old bill with a speeding ticket stating "we are aware you have notified a change of ownership but tell us who you sold it to". My (not so) old (and very fast) car was part-exchanged so I expect someone at the dealership was using it to get home....

I got confirmation today, 14 days after posting the form, but the letter is dated November 1st. so the job only took DVLA 2 working days.

I expect the road fund balance refund will take a lot longer to be received.

Not the old pre-date the letter to make it look like a quick response trick ;-)
